Valdis Luks
Managing Director
Valdis has been at the helm of G.E. Shaw and Associates (ACT) Pty Ltd since 2003. He achieved this position through a combination of hard work and natural abilities, and has risen through the organisation’s ranks from his first position as Site Manager.
Valdis is a great example of the self made man - he is recognised for his decisive leadership and proven ability to resolve issues.
Valdis has a “hands on” approach and is closely involved in every project the company undertakes, infusing each with the same energy and enthusiasm that have led to his personal success. His meticulous attention to detail is widely acknowledged, as is his ability to add value to projects by identifying opportunities for achieving practical cost savings and value for money outcomes for clients.
Valdis’ involvement in projects guarantees that the company’s full resources will be allocated to projects, as necessary, to achieve the best possible outcome for clients.
Valdis is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and also the Facility Management Association of Australia. His trade background is backed up by formal qualifications including a Carpentry & Joinery Certificate.

Roger Poels
General Manager
Roger is exceptionally well qualified for his current position, being holder of:
- a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Building
- a Class A Builders Licence
- Membership of the Australian Institute of Project Management / Master Project Director
- Membership of the Australian Institute of Building
- Membership of the Australian Institute of Company Directors
Roger has been with G.E. Shaw & Associates for over fifteen years and has managed projects in all areas that the company conducts business in, including the retail, commercial, government, education and private sectors. His training, expertise and experience comfortably span all types of projects undertaken by the company from Superintendence through minor works, up to the largest multi-million dollar construction project.
Roger is a particularly versatile individual who has distinguished himself in many different roles within the organisation including as Project Administrator and Project Manager. His current position as General Manager allows him to oversee projects from a corporate viewpoint and to ensure that the company’s high standards and philosophies are implemented in accordance with the company’s QA and OH&S systems. Regular auditing of projects to keep standards high is a major part of Roger’s current workload.
Roger’s experience in all facets of a project from the initial client contact through to the handover of the completed job enables all parties to have a confidence that each stage of the construction processes are completed to the highest standard.
Roger’s prime objective is to ensure that clients are fully satisfied with the service and projects delivered by the company and to maintain the company’s excellent reputation.

Ross Greenup
Director/ Senior Project Manager
Ross has been with G.E. Shaw and Associates since 1996 when he was initially employed as a Project Administrator to organize and run fit-outs. His considerable skills and qualities were acknowledged by the company in the form of a rapid promotion to the position of Project Manager, with the subsequent offer (and acceptance) of a Directorship of the company. On a number of projects, Ross has not only been the Project Manager but also the Site Manager. Such diversity of skills and willingness to take on those extra roles is testament to his dedication to the job.
Ross is an effective communicator and is able to understand the sensitivities of the clients and end users and translate that across to his team working on site. These interpersonal and management skills enable him to deal with all the stakeholders in the project with confidence and gain their total respect. He has shown himself to be a thorough planner who shows initiative in all aspects of his thinking and has developed into one of the company’s most valuable assets. His meticulous attention to detail ensures that projects are completed efficiently, in a timely manner and to the complete satisfaction of the client.

Steve Simms
Director/ Manager, Fitout & Refurbishment Division
Steve has had over 35 years experience in the construction business. He has been a part of G.E. Shaw & Associates’ team for the past eleven years. During this time he has managed most of the company’s office fitouts and refurbishment works.
Steve’s natural ability to accommodate his clients and operate professionally in occupied premises has played a major part in his development of a long-term regular client base. One of Steve’s major strengths is his total commitment to customer satisfaction, on which the solid reputation enjoyed by G.E. Shaw & Associates is largely built. With his experience as a self-employed small businessman, and his carpentry background, Steve has an attitude of finding practical, cost-effective solutions to every project he is involved in.
Over the past eleven years Steve has managed most of G.E. Shaw’s fitout works and has worked closely with a wide variety of public and private sector organisations. The total value of these projects is well over $100m. During these projects, Steve built up good working relationships with the property sections of all organisations and acquired a full appreciation of the requirements and protocols necessary to carry out refurbishment works for Commonwealth, Territory and private sector clients.

Robert Noack
Construction Manager
Robert has been with G.E. Shaw & Associates since 1991, during which time he has been site manager of choice for our largest and most complex projects. He has broad experience managing project worksites in the retail, commercial, government and health sectors.
Robert has established a solid reputation as someone who expects the highest standards and total commitment from all site personnel working under his direction, with clients regularly expressing their high regard for the quality of work handed over by him. Robert’s solid trade background is the basis for his practical, hands on management and problem solving abilities, which allow him to turn complex designs into practical realities. His attention to detail ensures that final products are delivered with minimal defects.
Robert is extremely well organised and has a well-developed and sharply-honed ability to schedule site trades effectively and efficiently so that projects flow smoothly, with minimal need for reworking. This translates into a more harmonious worksite and higher quality finishes.
Robert is a highly valued member of the G.E. Shaw team, in recognition of which he was offered, and took up, a partnership in the company.
Robert has been closely involved in the set-up and implementation of the company’s Occupational Health Safety and Environmental procedures. His practical on-site experience has been invaluable in helping pinpoint the on site issues requiring risk management attention when project site safety plans are being developed prior to the commencement of a project.
